VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - DANNY DI GIANDOMENICO

FOOTBALL PASSION - A foundation of great virtues and dedication to a passion is recognised.

Abruzzo - is an Italian region, east of Rome in the centre of Italy.

JOINED THE CLUB

Danny Di Giandomenico joined Abruzzo Sports Club in 1988 and came from a family that were passionate and dedicated to soccer - Soccer was their life;

Danny started his journey playing soccer with the “Abruzzi Sports Club” in 1988 in the NSW State League located in Wetherill Park. Danny regards Abruzzi Sports Club as “The original family club” and which is still known today as a family club. It was at this point that Danny’s parents, Peter and Gianna (known as Joanne) Di Giandomenico became involved within the club. It was then in 1991 that Gianna and alongside Maria Di Pizio, re-directed the Junior Football Club.

The Di Giandomenico family wanted the Abruzzi Club to provide an opportunity for anyone to get involved in whichever way they could, whether it be watching and supporting games, the canteen, soccer fundraising, soccer presentations, night events, Gala days, managing and coaching teams - just helping out.

DANNY’S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS (to name a few)

  • Playing in the State League (6th Division) and successfully over 10 years, AC United (formerly known as Abruzzi Sports Club) progressed to 1st Division;

  • Coaching boys and girls from Age 6 years and up, and still coaching his girls today (his daughter is 23 years old);

  • Seeing the club develop and grow in all aspects;

  • Creating 30 years of lifelong friendships which continue today, with many that are currently still playing for the club in the over 45’s, many of which hold Life Memberships for the club and have played for the past 30 years;

  • Three Generations of the Di Giandomenico’s have progressed and generated throughout this club - Peter and Gianna, Danny and daughter’s Sophia, Isabella and Alessia and nephew and niece Dean and Emily.

  • No doubt winning a Grandfinal is the greatest accomplishment a Coach and his team will achieve but winning a Grandfinal in 2013 for him meant the world as this win was dedicated to his mother Gianna -Danny said “all I wanted to do was to make my mother proud of the Club AC United, and the girls, the team and to give back to a woman who was passionate, dedicated and contributed so much of her time and love into building this family club”.

  • Coaching Co-ordinator for over 10 years and Committee Member for many years

We still see Danny around the club always offering a helping hand. What an amazing history and story behind the Di Giandomenico family shaping our club AC United and its success over the years! A big thanks to Danny and the Di Giandomenico family for their passion and we are very grateful for everything you have achieved for AC.
